Voice & Acting Coach Information

VOICE WORK: A contemporary vocal technique for a healthy, open, supported voice that uses both registers fully—separately and blended together—to be able to sing in all musical styles. A highly individualized vocal process utilizing breathing and support, articulation, physicalizations, and relaxation and release of tension spots.
COACHING: Choice of material (favoring the original and esoteric); text analysis; subtext; character development, actions, and objectives; exercises to release physical, psychological, and emotional blocks. Work with students on songs and monologues as well as on material provided or requested for specific auditions.

workshop

performance
will be at DON'T TELL MAMA, a pre-eminent cabaret and piano bar in
the
theatre district. Through seven work sessions, a dress rehearsal,
a
performance, and a post-performance wrap-up session, we work on
identifying who you are as a solo performer, choice of material,
song
interpretation, vocal and musical arrangements, patter, microphone
technique, performance blocks, and creating a relationship with
the
audience. ($1,200 TOTAL COST includes show and flyers.)
Acting for Singers
This eight-week workshop is for singers, dancers, and others new to acting techniques who want to explore the soul of acting, including basic acting exercises and theatre games from a wide variety of schools of thought about acting. Although there will be some history and pedagogy as we go, this is mostly fun: an exploration of yourself as an acting instrument, both solo and interacting with others. ($750 TOTAL COST)

Shellen’s Performing Work-Shop
This one-night “shop” is an opportunity for singers and actors to dig in and “work” for and with each other. Participants vary each time, but the climate and feedback are always supportive and encouraging. Each participant has the opportunity to be coached/directed by Shellen on one song or monologue. These workshops serve as a valuable stepping stone between working in private and performing for an audience. Over seven work and rehearsal sessions, dress rehearsal, performance, and wrap-up session, we work on identifying who you are as a solo performer, choice of material, song interpretation, vocal and musical arrangements, patter, mike technique, staging, performance blocks, and creating a relationship with the audience. |

For the initial custom-designed CD or emailed mp3s of voice warm-ups, the cost is $25.
For each additional CD or mp3s needed: if the material is already on file, the cost is only $10 per recording or set of files. (A great many of Shellen’s basic and extended as well as individually- designed exercises are already on file—and a list of those exercises is available—so that long-term students can custom design recordings for themselves.)
For all piano tracks and any material that needs to be individually recorded, the cost is at the same rate as lesson time.
