Tightrope

words and music by Shellen Lubin

Jumping in with both feet bare
That's the way I choose to live
Trusting that I'll get the most
The more I trust and give
Leading with my passion
Using all my sense and senses
Learning through each problem and paradox
And peeling off defenses
It's like dancing on a tightrope
Leaping without a net
No hold for toe or hand
No expectation, no regret
Desires, but no illusions
Ideas, but no conclusions
Life inspires me, fires me

Caught in space, mid-quantum leap
Raw with intensity
You sent out sparks on my open line
Combustible energy
Some probe, some play, but few take wing
Most get scared and choke before
You say you're scared, then you ride the fear
And just open another door
It's like dancing on a tightrope
Leaping without a net
No hold for mind or heart
No expectation, no regret
Dreams, but no illusions
Questions, but no conclusions
You inspire me, fire me

Will old boulders trip us up
Before we've really flown?
Will we go down ancient ruts
Or on a journey we've never known?
Show me
Come on, let go with me
Come dance up on the tightrope
Leap without a net
Holding just the wonder of
True risk with no regret
Hope with no illusion
Growth with no conclusion
Open (out here on the tightrope)
Stay open (dancing on a tightrope)
